Mother Teresa - ServantA Servant is one who puts aside all thought and concern for herself in order to focus on the needs of others. Mother Teresa left personal comfort and security behind to search out those whom the world had forgotten – those who have nothing. This diminutive Macedonian woman heard the call of God, left her family and home, and dedicated her life to the people of India. She started teaching in the schools, but was so affected by the poverty she saw that she left to work among the poorest of the poor. Without money or support she started an open-air school for poor children, as well as a non-profit organization called the Missionaries of Charity, who love and care for those forgotten by all others. Although she never sought her own glory, she was recognized by Prime Ministers, Popes, international organizations, and was even awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She traveled across the globe to feed the starving masses in Ethiopia, to comfort the radiation victims of Chernobyl, and to aid the earthquake survivors of Armenia. Mother Teresa’s life of service is a bright beacon of hope in a society darkened by selfishness – she is an inspiration to us all. |
