Our Medication Philosophy
New Haven's psychiatrist, Dr. Bunn, believes in getting to know his patients well before establishing a diagnosis and recommending treatment. He knows the value of New Haven's team approach for clarifying the core issues involved; the team approach provides a structured and collaborative setting where professionals from various disciplines can share observations of girls' behavior and affect – observations critical to appropriate medication decisions. A bio-psychosocial model often guides his medication management. He prefers dealing with as many of the psychosocial issues as possible to clarify the diagnosis and be able to more effectively treat the biological aspects.
Dr. Bunn tends to be conservative when prescribing medications to troubled teen girls, using the lowest effective dose and the least number of medications to effectively treat the disorders present. It is New Haven's policy to consult with parents before making medication changes.
