Austin is a passionate therapist who has been working with adolescents and their families for several years. Originally from Texas, Austin relocated to Utah when he was married and joined New Haven’s family. Austin finds fulfillment as he is able to watch families transform through the therapeutic process.
Austin attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and later a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While working on his master’s degree, Austin was a member of Chi Sigma Iota, a counseling, academic and professional honor society. Austin received his license in Texas while working in residential treatment and gaining significant experience with teenage trauma, the DBT modality, and addiction and recovery. Austin is also a certified member of the Equine-Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), and international and nonprofit association for professionals using equine therapy to address mental health and human development needs.
Since being at New Haven, Austin has gained significant experience working with family systems trauma from a relational approach. He also has grown as a leader, and has been instrumental in developing improvements to the Recovery program at New Haven. Austin is a musician, and in his free time, Austin loves to play the drums when possible. He also loves to play team sports such as ultimate frisbee and volleyball. Austin often finds that his hobbies and interests help him relate to the students at New Haven.
