Starla Olson, LMFT, RRT, EAGALA Certified
Starla grew up in Walla Walla, Washington and has always had a passion for working with and helping others. She was drawn to New Haven because of her passion to work with young women and the beautiful, healing setting provided by the spacious campuses. Starla very much enjoys helping others make their lives better. After working in residential and private practice settings and in the military with adolescent girls, she realized what she wanted to do. She feels a connection to young women and has seen the positive changes therapy and a supportive environment can make for them.
During Starla’s time in the military she worked as a victims’ advocate, supporting victims of sexual assault. She spent much of her time educating members of the military on sexual assault prevention and awareness. While finishing her graduate degree she interned at the Army Substance Abuse Clinic, providing military members and their families with therapeutic support. Before moving to Utah she lived in Florida and worked in private practice, dealing mainly with adolescents in family therapy. She also provided individual and family therapy at a residential substance-abuse facility, working to meet her young client’s emotional needs and improve their family dynamics.
Starla focuses on helping people. She enjoys helping them change their thinking patterns, helping them heal from trauma, and helping them build positive relationships. She strongly believes that each person has abilities and strengths which can help them heal and change. She actively tries to help each young lady she works with identify her underlying issues and figure out healthy ways to overcome them. She has years of experience working with adolescents struggling with substance abuse, mood, personality and anxiety disorders, past traumatic events and other emotional difficulties.
Some of the many things Starla enjoys in her personal life include: dancing, nature, hiking, camping, photography, spending time with family, learning something new each day, and playing with her two dogs, her Boxer-Achilles and her Yorkshire Terrier-Curtis.
