Originally from New York, Vanessa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and holds a Masters of Social Work from The State University of New York at Albany. She has been working in the field since 2007 with over six years of experience with youth and families in residential settings; including five years with adolescent females in residential foster care in New York City and more recently in an extended care sober living program with adolescent and young adult males in Portland, Maine.
Throughout her career, Vanessa has worked with individuals with trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, and adjustment issues through myriad treatment methods. Vanessa’s primary interest and training been focused on healing symptoms of PTSD and trauma, where she has worked with children, adolescents and adult survivors of interpersonal trauma and domestic violence as well as immigrants and refugees. Vanessa strives to balance her treatment methods with a holistic approach through incorporating yoga and Ayurveda in conjunction with a nutritional and physical health focus.
Vanessa is passionate about the outdoors and exploring new places. She has traveled around the globe and has lived abroad in Nepal. She enjoys tennis, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, ice climbing, and mountaineering, and has experience as trip leader with guiding company based out of New York City.
Vanessa is excited to be at New Haven help families heal relationships, and to connect with young women to work through their personal barriers, build self-esteem, and challenge themselves to discover their authentic selves by getting out of their comfort zone.
