Stabilization and Assessment
Stabilization
Welcome To New Haven
New Haven is converting one of our current homes on our Spanish Fork campus from its current use as a traditional New Haven home to a stabilization and assessment home (S&A). This S&A program will be part of New Haven and will provide a more secure environment for students who need additional psychological, behavioral, and neurological assessment to be successful. As you have likely experienced in your practice, we are seeing an increased level of youth needing a higher level of care than what we traditionally have been equipped to provide. The S&A program is aimed at helping fill part of that gap.

Your Community
The home that will become the stabilization and assessment house is where New Haven began almost 30 years ago - the Sacagawea House! The Sacagawea House is a short walk from the other two houses on our Spanish Fork campus which provides a comfortable physical separation from our traditional New Haven homes yet still allows access to our rich resources and experts. The stabilization and assessment students will have separate programming from the students in the Roosevelt and Teresa Houses on the same campus. They will not attend school and their groups will be self-contained. Our S&A program will be the best setting in the country for comprehensive psychological testing, medication stabilization, and nervous system regulation. We have developed a program based on Stephen Porges' Safe and Sound Protocol and we are excited to tell you about many other offerings.
Meet The Directors
Comprehensive psychological testing
Comprehensive psychological testing will be administered to each client by Dr. Chris Tolen, MA, Psy. D. Psychological testing is used to help gain a clear understanding of what might be contributing to the emotional, behavioral, and mental health struggles of each child. Psychological testing also helps chart the course of treatment, including what approaches will be most effective. Comprehensive psychological testing measures intellectual ability, screens for emotional and mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and autism.
Safe and Sound Protocol
The program will use Stephen Porges' Safe and Sound Protocol which helps regulate the nervous system. Over the course of treatment, clients will participate in this programming designed to help their nervous systems become more regulated. A more regulated nervous system means that clients will be less likely to enter fight or flight mode, emotional dysregulation will be reduced, reactions will improve, and emotional outbursts will be smaller and less frequent.
Access to Existing Programs
Kids in this program will also have access to equine therapy, art program, ropes course, yoga therapy that are available at New Haven.

Frequently Asked Questions
Students Answering Students
“I was worried I wouldn’t be able to do art or have my music. I was so happy when I found out I could bring my guitar and there was an art class. I worked on really cool art projects that I know will help me with my portfolio when I go to college. I love that I can play my guitar and draw in my spare time. I think it is really healing.” ~ Cassie, age 15
