New Haven’s robust recreational therapy program incorporates a number of hands on and experiential therapy options each week. Our goal is to balance our intensive individual and specialty groups with expressive therapies.

These group therapy sessions are opportunities for our students to work on specific individual issues. Some examples of specialty groups are trauma, attachment, and DBT. We have flexibility to create groups as needed by our populations, and to change a student’s groups to make sure she is getting the best balance.

General Groups

Twice per week students participate in general group therapy. It is a time for each house to come together and discuss how living in their community is going. It is facilitated by one of the house therapists to enhance communication and individual growth among each resident.

Craft and Level (Off Campus)

For students on the Insight Phase or above, this is another opportunity to go off campus and into the community for a fun activity. Those who are not on level are able to work on a craft. Girls take turns rotating the idea for the evening. It may be a seasonal craft, or a time to make a delicious treat.

Community Workout
