Who and What We Treat

Welcome to Stabilization & Assessment at New Haven, where we primarily focus on supporting adolescent females who are experiencing crises. Whether transitioning from hospital care or facing acute distress at home, our center offers a safe haven for those in need of security, stability, and expert assessment. Many of our clients grapple with challenges such as depression, identity issues, self-harm, or other mental illnesses, hindering their ability to realize their full potential in daily life. Our tailored treatment program aims to stabilize individuals and provide insight into their mental health struggles, determining the level of care needed for their journey ahead.

The admissions team will assess each individual and determine if they will be a good fit. Here are some, but not all of the criteria we would consider:

Programming at Stabilization & Assessment

  • Stabilization

Our experienced and dedicated staff include residential aides, nurses, licensed therapists, and a clinical psychologist, all of whom are seeking to create a nurturing atmosphere where healing can take place. Through evidence-based therapeutic interventions including DBT, CBT, and the Safe and Sound Protocol application of Polyvagal Theory, we guide each adolescent on a journey toward emotional and behavioral stability.

Our goal in using the Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) is to create a safe space for the adolescent brain and body to heal as well as access a calm and grounded state. This auditory intervention aims to enhance the regulation of the autonomic nervous system, promoting emotional self-regulation. Through specifically designed auditory exercises, SSP helps adolescents improve their ability to process and respond to emotional stimuli, resulting in enhanced emotional regulation and more receptivity to therapeutic support.

  • Psychological Assessment

A primary pillar of our program is to provide a comprehensive psychological assessment that is conducted by a licensed clinical psychologist. This evaluation is included in the program and ensures a tailored treatment plan that promotes long-term healing, understanding and growth. The individualized assessment will answer specific questions regarding each student’s treatment including IQ, academic achievement, executive functioning, learning disorders, and developmental disorders. Every family will be provided with a comprehensive report outlining the student’s history, testing results, interpretation, diagnosis, and recommendations.

quote 1

My daughter has expressed how well cared for and safe she felt at New Haven, and that the individual therapy she received there was the most helpful of any program she’s done. The Stabilization & Assessment program was not the end of her treatment journey, it was just the beginning. It got her to a place of stability to be able to receive treatment that is specific to her diagnosis. The New Haven Stabilization & Assessment program got her to a place to be ready for treatment and gave her hope that she can get better.

Stabilization & Assessment, Alumni Parent

I will be forever grateful for the wonderful care and treatment my daughter (age 15) received during her 10 weeks at New Haven Stabilization & Assessment. The program was the positive turning point we had been seeking for so long in her treatment and diagnosis. They met our daughter where she was and saw how broken and defeated she felt after so many unsuccessful attempts at treatment. They treated her with care, respect and dignity and made her feel safe.
